Finding a Babysitter in Calgary
Okay, so you’re a working parent, or stay-at-home parent who needs some down-time. This means: you need a babysitter! When you’re looking for a babysitter there are two main things that you need to feel 100% good about: references and the interview.
Babysitters Calgary will send you applicants that meet your requirements. They won’t send you a babysitter who is looking for full-time work if you only need to hire someone for part-time. They won’t send you a Spanish-speaker if you specifically request a Japanese-speaker. And they won’t send you a student if you specifically request someone older, with more experience.
So the applicants that come your way will have the basics covered. It will be up to you to call up the references they provide and to meet them for an in-person interview. References are an important way to know that the candidate you are meeting has worked satisfactorily for employers in the past. The objective requirements that you will want are that they treat your children well and don’t steal. Unfortunately, you can never be too careful in today’s world. Therefore, even if you feel bad asking these questions to the references, you should. Being direct is the best way to elicit a direct answer.
After the basics are covered you can then ask references other detailed questions, such as, did so and so come on time regularly? Did she complain or did she generally have a positive attitude? Was there ever an emergency, and if so, how did she react? Was she successful in following your instructions vis a vis limiting the children (amount of television watched, bedtime, etc.)?
Or, if the potential babysitter lives in your neighborhood of Calgary, you can try to find out if you know anyone personally who knows her. You can use Facebook for this or other neighborhood online forums. If one of your friends knows her, that’s a great way to get an honest evaluation of her skills.
If you receive positive answers to your inquiries, then you can invite the potential babysitter over for an interview.
During the interview, you want to make sure that she is normal in every sense of the word: making eye contact, answering your questions directly and communicating clearly. You might then want to introduce her to your children to see how she interacts with them. If she’s smiley and friendly, and generally seems trustworthy, you can go ahead and try her out.
Remember, you don’t have to commit to anything long-term. You can agree on a short-term trial, and if it goes well, commit to something more long-term.
There is nothing more worthwhile protecting than your children!
