Nanny Cost in Calgary
The hourly wage is only part of what a nanny costs. Families who budget for the wage alone are often surprised later, so this page sets out the full picture before you start a search.
The components of your real cost
- The agreed hourly wage or salary for the position.
- Vacation pay and statutory holiday pay, where they apply.
- Required payroll deductions and any employer contributions.
- Overtime, if the schedule can run past standard hours.
- Optional extras some families offer, such as a transit pass, mileage for driving, or a phone allowance.
- A one-time placement fee, if you use our Full-Service Placement.
Employer obligations affect the total
Because your family hires the nanny directly, your family is the employer. That brings payroll and record-keeping responsibilities, and the Canada Revenue Agency publishes specific guidance for families hiring a caregiver in a private home.
Many families use a payroll service or an accountant for this. It is a modest cost that removes a genuine administrative burden and reduces the risk of getting deductions wrong.
Our placement fees
Full-Service Placement is a one-time fee, separate from what you pay the nanny. Part-time placements start at CAD $2,000 and full-time placements start at CAD $3,000. Complex or combined nanny and household roles are quoted after a consultation.
Submitting an inquiry costs nothing. We review your position and confirm the exact scope, fee and terms in writing before any search begins.
Comparing a nanny with other childcare
A nanny is usually more expensive per child than a daycare place, and the gap narrows as you add children, since one nanny can cover siblings at no additional wage. Against that, families weigh care in their own home, a schedule built around their working hours, and no daily drop-off.
Provincial and federal childcare affordability programs may apply to licensed childcare rather than a privately hired nanny. Check the current eligibility rules directly before assuming a subsidy applies to either option.
Common questions
- Is the placement fee refundable?
- Fee and refund terms are confirmed in writing before a search begins, so both sides know exactly what has been agreed. Ask our team about the terms for your specific position during the consultation.
- Is there any charge to submit an inquiry?
- No. The inquiry form is free and lets us review your requirements and contact you. A search starts only once scope and terms are agreed.
